Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state. The city is flanked by lush rain forest and Mount Kinabalu to the east and the Tunka Abdul Rahman Park to the west.

There are six islands as off the coast of the city including the largest Gaya Island, the home of the first British settlement in 1882.  The smaller islands are Sapi Island, Manukan Island, Sulug Island, Mamutik Island, and Sepanggar Island.

KK boasts a population of around 500,000.
