Our Mission

Stop Fish Bombing (SFB) is dedicated to the eradication of destructive fish bombing practices worldwide. We are committed to engaging with coastal and island communities, fostering awareness, and promoting sustainable fishing methods. Through innovative technology, we strive to protect and restore reefs damaged by fish bombing. Our real-time audio data not only aids in reef restoration but also serves as a significant resource for marine scientists and researchers to monitor reef health and marine life interactions.

To achieve this mission we understand:

  • Dynamite fishing is an illegal and unsustainable fishing method that causes long-term/irreparable damage to coastal ecosystems which diminishes future production of fish and other ecosystem services of value to future generations.

  • Therefore, development of effective monitoring systems would allow better enforcement measures to be effected by:

    • Identifying hotspots where deployment of enforcement resources could be focused

    • Providing real time location data to enforcement agencies in the field would improve apprehension rates.

    • Providing evidence in court.

  • Technical and financial support to coastal communities allowing them to develop alternative income sources would:

    • Prevent the uptake of dynamite fishing in communities not (yet) using it.

    • Encourage dynamite fishermen to move into more sustainable livelihoods.
